Congregation of St Albans and Luton

The German Lutheran Congregation of St Albans & Luton was founded in the 1950s by former Prisoners of War and young families who had settled in the area. Ever since there have been German language services at St Albans Abbey and other venues in and around St Albans and Luton.

Our congregation now consist of all generations, from Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and further afield.

You are warmly invited to join our services and events, usually on the last Tuesday of each month in the Lady Chapel of the Abbey; and on the second Saturday in St Mary’s Church in Marshalswick (with children’s service). Please check this website or our Facebook page for current dates and events.

Church Service

• Once a month we celebrate an evening service in the Cathedral of St Albans

• Once a month, on a Saturday afternoon, we invite to a service at St Mary's in Marshalswick, with a children's service.

• Luton hosts a house service once or twice a year.

What else we offer

In addition, there are several discussion groups and offers for children and families (see also groups). Many young German-speaking families live in the area and take part in our community.

We also take care of the German-speaking people of the older generation, who appreciate our visits.

Easter Preparations

In Luton, in the Leonhardt family's house, we invite you to a small service once or twice a year. The dining room becomes the place of worship. Afterwards we have lunch together and there is always something delicious from the Leonhardt kitchen. We often sing together as well. It is always a very special morning.
